An iconic Chinese restaurant that I have passed by over the last few decades I decided to try it by myself tonight. Greeting was fine, decor is tasteful and the white tables cloths are a nice touch. Service was ok and they automatically serve fresh bread and hot tea. As I expected the "dinner for one" was a large portion. Included a tasty shredded vegetable egg roll, three crab rangoons that were loaded with filling and lightly fried. The pork fried rice and general gaus chicken were good but served luke warm at best. Surprising as I felt it took a while for it to come out of the kitchen. I ate less than half of the platter and it will be a good lunch over the next few days. PS after the leftovers were packed I mentioned to my server that the rice and chicken weren't hot and he generously offered to bring me a fresh order to take home. I declined but appreciated his offer. The space is big and there was ample lot parking parking but I think three stars is about right.

Zero stars to these people. We were charged a $7 cover per person for 10 people and after 1 drink they refused to serve us. They said we had too much to drink after one drink. Then asked us to leave and refused to refund our cover charge. We were there 20 minutes maximum. No one was intoxicated. They are cheap and unreasonable. Don't eat here. Don't go here.

I love this place. Always good service, and their portions are big. The drinks are good too. I always get the lobster sauce. Its the best I tried so far in quincy. The only other place I would order lobster sauce when I'm too lazy to pick up from here is Peking kitchen. Hey its not the best Chinese food but hey its Americanized. Where else can you go for americanized Chinese food with a nice setting and good service and good food?

Very disappointed with the quality of the food. Been going there for over 15 years. And the food is just bad. It's a shame. It was so good. And it wasn't one bad meal. It's been a few lately. So I stopped visiting the restaurant.

Yummy yummy Chinese food!! Me and my family order out from here often and have done so for years! Dine in is just as good. Go for the dinners and lunches..that's the most for your money! They average $7-$10 dollars. The food is always fresh and the flavors are delicious. You will be craving them again and again!...I want some chicken fingers now ;)

Very mediocre food here. I had the boneless ribs, crab Rangoon, an eggroll, and pork fried rice. The quality of all was all less than what you'd get other Chinese restaurants in greater Boston and the prices were a little higher than what you would typically see. The place itself could use a facelift. Inside they still have TVs that are old CRTs from the 90s. I won't be coming back here.

Food and atmosphere are equally terrible. This establishment has gone way downhill and I will not be back.

We had a horrible experience here. Our server was extremely rude and very short with us. There must of been something contaminated throughout the food. My fiancé and I have been sick for days since we ate there this past Friday night. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!

I've been coming to this restaurant since I was five years old. I would come here often when I lived in Boston during my youth and every time was fantastic. I grew up to love their food and today, I still do. It hasn't changed and it tastes just as good as it always have, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm stubborn about tasting new food but overtime I have and I find certain things are more delicious than I ever anticipated them to be, like their "duck sauce." I now dip whatever food tastes great with it in it. I don't have much to say on the decor of the place, but they have improved over the years and I continue to love it. The place is clean and the people I grew up knowing, that are still there, are lovely. Granted, the service hasn't always been great one or two times I've gone there over the years, but nothing too ridiculous has happened in regards of service that I should take points off. I go there whenever I can when I visit my dad in Boston twice a year, so I don't always see the same people working there as I did the last time. I'm proud to see that the Cathay Pacific is still here after all of these years and I hope they continue to stick around because I haven't found any other Chinese restaurant like them with their kind of delicious food and I don't think I ever will. I'm happy to see this place packed a lot. It shows me that people really love the food. This place will always have a special place in my heart, as it's part of the city I grew up in and love.

I finally tried this place after avoiding it for a year. I should have kept avoiding. The food here is just barely a step above the dirty Chinese food you'll find throughout the city. The only thing this place has going for it is the huge amount of parking and portion size that can feed two grown men. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Soggy crab rangoon and chicken fingers. They were not even edible. The lo mein was pretty good though and the staff was pleasant.

Great service. It's a time warp in here. Love it. In the world of Walmart we need some retro Chinese restaurants to keep us sane, and well fed. Btw, if I wanted five star Cantonese. I could have found it any number of places. This place is unusual, and good!

  • Matthew E.

I only eat take-out from here and I am always pleased. I'm not a fan of Chinese food, I usually only eat it because its what everyone else around me gets. But whenever someone mentions this place I get excited. This is the only place that prepares chicken fingers that are enjoyable. This establishment singlehandedly changed my opinion toward s Chinese takeout.

Good place to dine and take out. No complaints with the service and karaoke not bad either

This place is average for Chinese food and drinks. The reason why I only give one star is my last visit. Myself and two of my friends came in for some food and karaoke. We paid the cover and sat down. After 20 min of waiting the waitress came over and took our order. Five minutes later she came back and informed us she could not serve us because she thought one girl had been drinking. No one had a single drink. ( We just walked by Quincy police and paid the cover man. No issue) So I asked to speak to the manager. The waitress agreed and never returned. I walked up to the front and spoke to the manager. He gave me the sorry excuse that he was short handed. What?? He told me it was the waitress' call. What pissed me off was he could not make eye contact. I let it go and went back to my table. Finally the food shows up. Half of it anyway. Our chicken and crab ragoon were under cooked and the beef fried rice didn't come out. I had to find the waitress to let her know because she never came back. 30 min later I had to look for her again to let her know we didn't get our rice. She brought it over right away. I ordered another drink and that took another hand wave after waiting 15 min. As we are ready to go after a night of terrible service, border line below average food. The waitress walks over and says she is sorry about the service. Check please! Our bill came. And I left exact total and a 90¢ tip. The waitress said in a rude disrespectful tone. Give me 10¢ and I give you back a dollar! Really lady? I see why you need Quincy police. Your never packed enough to need a police detail. It may be because Your food sucks, your boss sucks, your service sucks. And your charging people. Never again will I spend any money in this rat hole.

Come on people. This is Polynesian food - not straight up Chinese. They make some super ribs, I bet they make awesome drinks in a bowl and can fry up some serious rice. Don't expect it to be what it is not and love it for what it is!

My wife and I were out on a drive and on our way for seafood. We caught a whiff of the Cathay Pacific, and even though it was a while before we could turn around and head back we made it. And glad we did. The service was great, efficient. The decor is definitely a throwback, but the place was spotless. I'm recovering from leukemia and have a low immune system, so I pay more attention than I used to. We had soup, crab rangoon and two entrees. Everything was tasty and well presented. Plenty of leftovers too. My wife still can't get over the "Chinese bread"! Prices fair. It is American Chinese food, done well. It's not in our neighborhood but if it were we'd be regulars.

Best crab rangoon ive ever had. Generals gau is pretty tasty too. If its busy stay away from this place though. Ive been here 5 times or so now and think its the best chinese food in quincy we have had so far. The only reason this isnt a 5 star is because we went once when it was very busy and the service was the slowest ive EVER experienced. we waited maybe 45 minutes and had to ask around to other servers to help us... nobody would and said that this guy does this dissapeering thing alot. He finally came by and gave us our bill and wrapped up our leftovers... we waited another 10 mintues for him to grab our credit card so we just got up and paid at the front of the restaurant. Never had done that before. 1 out of 5 or 6 times of pretty good service though so who knows. It was extremely busy and I think he had a huge party function thing going on to cover as well. If you like crab rangoon its the best there is in my opinion. Oh yea seems like a great place for kareoke and live music. I always see people having a blast in there.

I should have known I was in trouble when the Chinese Restaurant put Ye Olde Traditional Chinese Bread and Butter on the table. I have never had such bland food. Especially Chinese food. I ordered General Tso's, which is normally supposed to be spicy... it wasn't even sweet. It's like they picked up a shaker labeled "bland" and poured it over everything. And it seemed like fresh, well cooked ingredients too! Such a shame there was zero flavor in anything. (the plain white rice was good...)

Very sarcastic folks at the take out desk. Attitude. I found the food mediocre at best.

I dont even know how to put this. The first and last time I went to this place it was absolutely horrible. Nothing about the food tasted good. It felt like it had been sitting out all day and didnt have any taste what so ever!! It seems as if the bar was more happening then the dining room but even the drink I got was mehhhh. I will say that the waiter was a nice guy. That is it.

Every bride and groom looks forward to their rehearsal dinner. It is supposed to be one of the enjoyable events before the wedding. NOT MINE!! WHY? BECAUSE THERE WAS NO HEAT!!! I understand there was a snowstorm the day before, but they should of called me immediately to let me know that there was no heat in the restaurant. They shouldn't have been open in the first place. All of the guests had on their jackets, hats, they were freezing. I had older family members there and it wasn't right! The staff who waited on us were great, its not their fault. We got a ton of food and I think they were trying to make up for the fact that there was no heat. Except when it came to the bill, the waiter said "Oh, because of the heat, we are not going to charge you for the extra people that are not here since you said 45 people and there are only 40". Let's back up here ----when I first made the reservation for this back in September 2013, George, the manager, did not tell me about final headcount deadline nor did I see anything in writing about this. I told him in September that I estimated 45 people. When I called 2 weeks before my event to follow up and confirm (why am I calling in the first place), he never asked for a final headcount. I would assume they would just charge me for who was there, 5 people off is no big deal. The waiter said "well we set up for 45 people and you only have 40". Get out of town with that nonsense. Clearly Cathay Pacific is more concerned about making money then the comfort of their guests.

Okay, where to start? Plenty of parking, but some drunk was blocking the lane that connects front and back lots. They were half-pulled out of a spot, car in park, checking their car for damage. I figured that meant they had strong drinks.. Service was fine, no complaints, but the food was particularly BAD. General Gau's chicken was slightly undercooked and even if it was cooked right the glaze on it was tasteless. Spareribs were like noodles, chewy noodles! Pork fried rice was dry and stuck together in clumps, with an absence of taste. The crab rangoon were overstuffed with cheese and (shocker!) not very good-tasting. Even my fortune cookie was a disappointment because when I went to break it the damn thing unwrapped like a moist tortilla, leaving a soft circle of dough in my hand. I've never seen that happen before. At least now I know how they look before they get made into fortune cookies! As 'entertainment' there was a live band of well-meaning musicians who played covers that they couldn't perform well. To be fair, I don't think there's any music they can perform well, including the 90's tracks they attempted to play. How can both lead singers and the backup singer be tone-deaf?! Long story short, Cathay Pacific has seen the last of me.

Cathay Pacific is within walking distance of Best Western's Adams Inn. I was impressed by the state-of-the-art karaoke DJ. No more catalogs... you enter your repertoire on his workstation (PC) and he calls you up to one from your list when it's your turn. If you show up on a Monday night, you may be called to the mic more often than desired, but the venue is great and I also enjoyed the food as well as the bar.

I'll start with the positive: What allows this place to even have two stars is that the server was pleasant, the restaurant was clean, and the scorpion bowl I ordered to drink was tasty. BUT this was the worst food I've eaten at a restaurant - not even just Chinese food, I mean cuisine in general. The boneless spare ribs were rubbery and flavorless, the General Gao's chicken was slightly sweetened (no kick like it should have), largely flavorless, poorly fried chunks of chicken, and the fried rice was extremely fried and greasy and yet somehow lacked flavor. To top it off, their "live entertainment" was a sad 90's R&B band which brought the atmosphere down even more. My boyfriend and I bagged 75% of our meal and got out of there as fast as possible. My overall review is, in one word, "Bleh," in five words, "Never making this mistake again."

F minus for food, F minus for service, F minus for their existence. I bet people in prison are given better food and better treatment and don't actually have to pay for this crap. This place not only shames the restaurant industry with bad service, horrible food, and waitresses from hell, but they stole the name of an airline as well. Having said that, even airplane food is better than the defrosted generic junk they serve you here.

Listen. No restaurant's food is so good that I will overlook poor customer service. Case in point: Cathay Pacific. I will comment on the lack of attentiveness from the wait staff. Rude, if you ask me. If you're going to be a waiter/waitress, there is a very important verb tucked into your title that you must understand and be comfortable with. It has four letters. Starts with a w. I just cannot handle impatient waitstaff. This will never make sense to me. If I've never dined with you before, please expect that it will take me more than 3 minutes to peruse the menu. Also, people, let's start making sense with our "policies." How are you going to ID folks to karaoke??? Since when is a state ID not a valid form of ID in the state of Mass.? Amateur hour, if you ask me. On to the food. I ordered spareribs on the bone, and shared shrimp fried rice with a friend. I'm used to my fried rice having veggies. This puppy had beansprouts and shrimp. That was all. Well seasoned and a hefty portion for two, which is great, but I would have liked my veggies. The spareribs were tender off the bone. Good sauce, too. I will likely not be back here simply because of the "customer service" shenanigans.

I went there with a friend of mine who claimed to like it. I found the combination plate menu limiting, and was even told I couldn't substitute some appetizers even though the menu allowed it (for a slight fee). Upon receiving my General Gau's chicken, I was disappointed. They had large portions, but I found the food bland and not spicy at all. The pork fried rice had little flavor. Though I wasn't happy with the food, they boast an extensive cocktail menu and make good drinks. Also, the service was great. I won't go again, though...but just because the food was bland. .

I admit that one should not pass judgement due to a single, mediocre experience. However, should a restaurant not strive to make a good experience for every customer, all of the time? I will not be returning here, first because I was only passing through Boston, though second because the meal and service were truly awful and in some ways quite bizarre. We were met (I would not say greeted, as it was by no means with a smile) by a surly hostess who we asked for a table for 3. She showed us to a table set for two, then walked off. We called out that we needed another place setting, and also a place to store our suitcase (in case it blocked the aisle), but she just ignored us and kept walking away. I asked for chopsticks and was told yes, but they never came. I ordered a meal, but various listed ingredients were missing. The food was tasteless and poorly presented - a bowl of large chunks of pork and celery which resembled pet food. I could not finish the meal as it was so unappetising. The hostess asked if I wanted it in a bag to go. I said politely, no thank you. She asked 'why not' as if I was insulting her. I was in fact trying not to be insulting by simply saying no. So I mentioned that there were ingredients missing, so she TOOK MY FORK from my hand and proceeded to DIG THROUGH THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF MY BOWL to see if she could find anything I was suggesting was missing. She made no apology. It was so weird. Sorry, but that is not good food, and that was not good service.

This place is hilarious. Their "lounge" area is nothing more than a banquet room, pink chairs and all. The people are all middle aged to elderly and mostly female. The beers are around $5 and the mixed drinks start at $7. People were having a good time, dancing, and enjoying themselves. It was reminiscent of a VFW Post or a Jerry Springer segment. When I asked my waitress for change, she told me to go up to the register and get it. I refused. It was for her!!! She ended up giving me some change. But her blatant display of disrespect left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't care if the crowd is racially mixed and working class; we all deserve the same respect. On a good note, the crab rangoons are delicious!

TERRIBLE !! Don't get me wrong , nice looking place , fun to laugh at the ppl doing karaoke. But the service sucked !! I waited 45mins for a scorpion bowl .. Remind you , there was only like 4 other tables being occupied. The servers are nice and the tea is great lol . The food is average, maybe a little less .

If you've been around or have friends in different states then I'm sure you've had conversations about what makes your state special and different. A lot of this has to do with food and what you can get where. Well in the state of Massachusetts, apparently the Chinese food is served with bread. Not sliced bread but whole French loaves. I've been dying to try this out for years. Enter Cathay Pacific Restaurant. It is unlike any Chinese restaurant I have been to before. There's a lounge inside but it felt more like a nightclub. I didn't go but there was a dress to impress sign, a live soul band and a crowd of clubbers outside and in. They even had karaoke. Wooooo~. Now don't get all excited. Cathay isn't fancy. It feels like 1 AM in Reno or a cheap 24 hour restaurant in Vegas. I might even say its like a Chinese Denny's. The service was excellent and the food came out fast. We got a Pu Pu platter and an order of Peking Ravioli. That's another thing in Massachusetts. The names of the dishes are different than in NY and CA. Peking Ravioli is dumplings and pot stickers. The Pu Pu platter had everything from spareribs to chicken wings and fried shrimp. It was great. Cathay Pacific also has a bunch of themed drinks. From scorpion bowls to drinks in tiki gods, its a full on Polynesian bar! Our friend's mai tai was wrapped in a lei. Talk about festive! The overall feel of Cathay Pacific is like being at a carnival buffet. There's corn dogs, funnel cake, pop corn, and cotton candy. You can have it all as an appetizer. You eat it all. You get distracted by games and music. And then down everything with a giant lemonade and then go for a deep fried twinkie. That's pretty much what Cathay Pacific has to offer. All the junk but it is Chinese food. You gobble it up in 15 minutes, you feel happy, and then you feel sick when you get home. Can't you just hear the screams, laughter, and carnival music right about now? If you're lucky, you might even win some fortune cookies.

Never going back again, order well-done chicken wings, but they still came bloody inside, the drinks came after I finished the appetizers, that's ridiculous. The fried rice tastes like microwaved. I don't know why people are say that the food is cheap, the prices of the dishes are 2-3 dollars higher than other chinese place , the only star i give are for the staff, they are pretty nice.

Food is average at best, and I don't foresee eating here anytime soon. This place use to be the spot back in the day, but in my opinion, it has since fallen off in terms of quality and taste of food.

Horrible customer service!!! The wait staff was extremely rude and getting into karaoke was like attempting to approach the white house since I had an out of state license. I left and will not return. They kicked my girlfriend out because she had a state ID instead of a license regardless of the fact she is well over 21.

New year's eve ... 1 hour wait turned into 2hrs and12 minute wait... here is the bad ... kung pao chicken had no peanuts, cashew chicken had no .. you guessed it, no cashews, food wad cold, and here is the shocker, I asked for boneless ribs, the woman on the phone asked me, do you want them on the bone? I said no I want boneless ribs, she asked me again if I wanted them on the bone, said again no I want the BONELESS ribs, she asked me a third time I said forget it you obviously can't comprehend that boneless means no bone, she said Oh, you want boneless ribs... yeah folks you can't fix stupid. The food overall sucked but here's the kicker apparently they Jack their prices up for new years eve, what I had figured out to be $90 came out to $115 at the pickup and to make matters worse the woman on the microphone thought it was fun to say isn't this great about how much business they did while myself and at least 100 of my new closest friends jammed into an area that would fit only 20 people comfortably. Never again never again never again

I've been coming here with my family for AS LONG as I can remember. I have pictures of myself with my parents when I was a baby! Anywho, this place is amazing, and they never fail to please. Their peking duck and 1/2 fried chicken is very tasty and always a must when we have dinner there. I've brought my friends there, and they love it too. Drink menu is super huge, and the drinks are made just right. They can always customize anything you like to your taste as well. They also have a karaoke bar with live entertainment on some nights. NOTE: If you do not have a driver's license, you cannot have a drink. I had a liquor license before I got my license and I was not able to buy a drink. I thought that this was odd since a liquor license should allow you to drink right? But no. I was upset when I couldn't order a drink, but now I can since I have my license.

My family has been coming to this restaurant for generations. Unfortunately, once management was changed the restaurant went down hill. My husband and I were seated in the lounge. The waiter gave us a new table cover, dishes and utensils from another table (which was not clean), tea, cold bread (from the same table), and duck sauce that had dried up sauce on the side of the cup. When i asked for hot water, the waiter said he doesn't have hot water. We left immediately. TRULLY DISAPPOINTED!!

Bread and butter was brought to us by a very friendly waiter. The chicken fingers were excellent. The pork fried rice was very good. They also offered free refills on drinks as well as water and a pot of tea at no additional charge.

So the decor/menu/giftcards haven't changed since the 70's, so what? The food is good and that is all that matters. Scorpion Bowls, Mai Thai and Zombies are all done nicely by the bartender. The Pu Pu Platter, which they have two sizes, is huge and can easily feed 4-6. Meat-a-tarian that I am, I tend to stick to meat fried rice, but my go to here is the bean sprout fried rice. Service can be hit or miss, but as long as you do not make any outrageous requests your meal will get to you the way that you ordered.

The vintage 60s/70s exterior of this restaurant caught our eye as we were driving around in our Zipcar this past Saturday evening. We were actually on our way to The 99 for steaks, but we made a note to try Cathay Pacific sometime soon. As it happened, after a lazy Sunday at home, we decided to try it for dinner that very evening. We had already dropped off the Zipcar, so this place is a bit of a hike on foot from the North Quincy T station. But it was a lovely late afternoon, and about 15 minutes of slow walking got us there. What we weren't expecting was that when we got there, the place was absolutely packed to the rafters, mostly with families, many of them dressed up. I couldn't figure out why is was so slammed at only 5:45 PM on a Sunday. I thought maybe it was booked up for a wedding. We put in our name for a table for two and waited our turn for about 20 minutes. It took me almost as long to remember why it was so busy -- it was Mother's Day. The decor is like stepping into the past, to the Rat Pack era or so. It reminded me of the old Sahara Casino in Las Vegas except more Chinese-y. Service was brisk and something short of gracious at the hostess stand, but they were up to their eyeballs in customers so I can let that slide. Old school Chinese-American food makes me dance in my chair when I can get it. This place is so old school that they don't even give you chopsticks -- our places were set with western silverware only. It's been a decade or more since I've had Chicago-style chow mein, so I had to order it. All of your grandparents' "Oriental" favorites are there too, like egg foo yong, chop suey...they've got it all. My boyfriend is the king of General Gao's Chicken, so I wasn't surprised by his choice. The drinks, too, are straight out of history: Mai Tai, Suffering Bastard, Fog Cutter, and of course Scorpion Bowls. The menu text must not have changed since 1968. ("Try the NEW sensation! FROZEN strawberry DAIQUIRI!") I had the non-alcoholic fruit punch which came with a big fruit skewer, and he got an Old Fashioned. It tasted like childhood! My Chicago-style was just like I remember it, all mung bean sprouts and onions and mushrooms and water chestnuts, all in a brown sauce. It came with the kind of crispy noodles that I thought were extinct. Apparently the General's was good too, though I won't taste anything that sweet. Rolls and butter, tea, fortune cookies and pineapple chunks all showed up. Oh, and very good Peking Ravioli. Portions were giant. We would have been fine sharing one app and one entree. We had a great time and would definitely go back. The people on Yelp who hated it most were the ones expecting cuisine. This isn't cuisine. It's Chinese-American food. If they don't want to eat it they can go sit in the car until we're finished.

Came here for a big group dinner on a Saturday night. A bit of a ways away from the train station, but a nice spacious restaurant with a HUGE menu of all sorts of Asian fare. Due to the aforementioned large group of people we ordered a bunch of different things. One of which was the large Pu Pu Platter ($28). Generous portions of all sorts of meat/fried items - including crab ragoon (awesome), chicken wings (glazed nicely), shrimp (breaded, though no sauce with it), and beef kebabs (juicy, needs hot sauce). Also I decided to order the orange chicken ($14) which was a giant mistake since I was full about 4 pieces in. They do not skimp on quantity here, and surprisingly the quality does not suffer. Ordered the Coco Punch ($9) to drink as well, but wasn't really feeling it. Stick with the food here and you'll be set, but one item should be enough. Side note: late night live music!

Rundown of the random/weird 1-2 star reviews - 1. food was good but the TV's were from the 90's - check., 2. the food was horrible including the French Fries (who the 'eff orders french fries at a Chinese place?) - check. , 3. they served French bread and butter (something Chinese places in the Boston area have been doing since the 80's) - check., 4. the didn't have desert except fortune cookies (this one is just bizarre for anyone who's been to a Chinese restaurant) - check., 5. the waitress accidentally spilled some of my drink on my hand - check., 6. they refused to serve us after 1 drink and asked us to leave (the biggest profit ratio for a restaurant is serving booze - if they shut you off after 1 drink, you were hammered. grow up) 7. (regarding the bar) - there's no windows or "chicks". Is it authentic yuppy "I'm multi-cultural!" gourmet food? No. Is it damn good, old fashioned American style Chinese fair? - yes. I've been coming here since the 90's - its great food - every time.

Portion sizes are huge! Combination plates are about $13 but you get 3 meals worth. First Asian restaurant I have seen that delivers bread to table, always a plus. Atmosphere is good and service was friendly. Food is decent, not the best I have ever had. I got chicken curry combo platter with crab Rangoon and veggie lo mein, everything was decent.

I've been going to Cathay for over 20 years and I must say the food quality has changed and not for the better. I'm not sure if it's new ownership or new management, but for example the rice and the chicken wings definitely has changed in the way it's made. I'm not a drinker, but I find their drinks to be ok. If you want something quick and not 5 star quality then this could be the place. Back in the days I would say yes 5 star.

Nice seating area , we were a party of 2 , so the table which was given to us was excellent , bread & butter in a Chinese restaurant is not usual at all , but you will find it here . The staff are really friendly , quick service . The food portion was more than you would expect . I really recommend it .

I said "What do you have for desert" He said - Fortune cookies...I almost fell out of the chair.Food is not very expensive, but its not for everyone either. No selection of wine. They have a bottle of each type and thats it.All american cheap and sweet wines.I came on a Monday and sit on the bar.The dining room looked gorgeous but the bar looks like from a John Wayne movie.Total contrast.Staff is friendly.

Pleasantly surprised tonight on my first visit to Cathay Pacific. Super friendly and accommodating staff! Thanks Ray! Have both authentic and American style food. Large portions you've come to expect from a Chinese food joint. This place is great for groups. Huge dinning area and a whole different wing for the bar and karaoke. Sounded like a good time and lots of cars in the parking lot. I would recommend this place for sure. Not sure why there were so many negative reviews online.

This place has my favorite crab rangoon. They're nice and crunch on the edges, nicely filled inside, and add the large amount of sauce they give and you're all set. Everything else I've had here is pretty standard. I always order for pick up and call well ahead because it can be very busy here and more often than not I've noted (even just on picking up food) the customers seem to be pretty rude, so I like to just get in and out as fast as I can. It's not too close to home, but I swing out of my way when the craving hits.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!! Their foood is horrible, their ambiance is horrible, the place looks like it hasn't been cleaned in decades!!! This place is only okay to go if you're high or drunk!! If you go to this place sober you will regret it... if you're reading this consider this a warning!

Two stars because the service was mediocre. While handing me my drink, the waitress practically threw it at me and spilled it all over my hand. She did not even look back to make sure that I was okay. The food came out quickly which we were really excited about. However, we soon realized that the reason the food came out so quickly was because it was pre-made, so everything was cold. Overall, the food was okay and the service was horrible. I did not have an alcoholic beverage but one of the individuals that I was with said the Zombie was GREAT!

lifelong Quincy resident... what can I say.. its the cathay.... place is big... plenty of room for a group. ... you can park a convoy of mack trucks outside with plenty of spaces left over. .. not my first choice for take out.. but the food is pretty good.

This place is contrast. Great great room with a good dance floor and dance scene. On weekend nights some of Boston's best disco funk and RnB bands play on the stage for a $6 cover charge. The bands do not start much before 10pm and take frequent long breaks. But the musicians always play some outstanding music. Real dancers should get there early and dance the early sets before the hordes of stomp swayers with drinks in hand clog the dance floor like a zombie horde. The waitress should get combat pay and a medal for being able to serve when the joint gets jumpin. But sadly Cathay pacific defines the bottom of the scale for their drinks like Mai tai zombies and headhunters. Same goes For their Chinese American food. Hence my contrast comment. Cathay center on the other side of town sets the high end of the standard. If only cathy pacific could borrow a cook and bartender from Cathay center. And Derek and Cheryl from dancing with the stars could transform the mob into a dance crowd. This would be a five star place. Chef Ramsey you need to come here and bring Len goodman.

I was really craving good Chinese food and figured why not try the Cathay, haven't been there in awhile. Got take out and what a disappointment. . The crab range on undercooked and bland, the chicken in the chow me in rubbery . What a waste of money, never again. Don't waste your time or money going there. Had to throw everything away.

I always drove by this place and wondered what it was. Since I had received a gift card from a friend of mines, I finally decided to give this place a try. I would not come back. The food was terrible. The fried rice I ordered was warm and did not taste good at all. It just tasted like oil. The other items (crab ragoons, chicken fingers, fries) were okay but I could go elsewhere to get them. Place was dimly lit and felt dirty.

The food at there was not good, everything tastes like the same, the service was fine through. I think ppl who go there kinda more interested in the karaoke the most.....I won't go back there anyway....

Not bad for a chinese restaurant and it stays open late which is always good, would love if they delivered but unfortunately thats not how they do it, busy all weekend so prepare for a wait.

Slow service Slow kitchen The fried dumplings were boiled too long then fried at low setting (limp and no taste). Chic wings and scallion pancakes were greasy. This place is only here for the expensive drinks not making quality food.

Might not be the most accurate review since it was about midnight after an all you can drink wine-tasting, BUT what I can say is that the staff was more than accommodating and more than happy to suggest some delicious items. Five of us split a pu-pu platter and some dumplings...and some fried rice...and maybe some noodles. Yea, don't judge me please! All of it was delicious! It was a great end to a great night.

I always have a good experience when I eat here, I feel sorry for the people of the reviews I read, I have never had that problem. Maybe people are to picky or maybe you give off bad vibes so you get bad food? Idk but i will eat here when ever i'm craving good Chinese

Good portion size for your money. 2 stars for customer service and cleanliness. We started off with black tea and it was delicious best black tea I've ever had. Now, my utensils were dirty. And once my food arrived And I didn't like it, the waitress wouldn't let me change it, I hadn't even started to eat it. I got a combination plate with chicken fingers by accident and I am not a fan of chicken fingers and she had a fit "no that is what you ordered you cannot change it" pump the brakes lady whatever happened to pleasing the customer and meeting their needs. AND on arrival my rice was cold, like come on. And I read in another review that you get fresh pineapples for dessert. No they're canned pineapples which is okay. I ate them! Cathay you get a C. Customer service is everything!

The service was terribly slow. My main course came before my appetizer. At that point I cancelled my appetizer which was a battle as well. My date's food came 15 minutes after my own. In addition to slow service the place was loud. I had to yell to speak to someone 2 feet away. Don't waste your time coming here.

I love this restaurant. It is definitely a favorite for my family! This place is open literally every day of the year which is great! We only get take out so I cannot comment much on service but our food is always ready by the time we arrive and it is super delicious! Give it a try!!

I know this place is basically a historical monument in the barbarian kingdoms but man is it terrible. If you're a battlecruiser looking for a supply depot, you'll find some beef stocks here...just adulterated with msg. Hard pass.

Chances are if you live in southern area of Boston or Quincy you've been to this place, and you typically go this place because it's consistent. It has been consistent for the many years that I've been going. I'm not going to say it's the best chinese ever, but it's pretty close. Not too greasy, fast service, higher than usual prices, but large portions. I recommend the peking duck! delicious

This experience can be 4 stars or 3 stars there are two keys to success minus the roulette of the waiter. Dont get me wrong, the waiters are nice and attentive but certain ones make the experience so much better than normal. There is one lady who I ask for every visit and she is mainly a reason for the 4 stars. Otherwise, here are the two keys to your dining experience. 1. Ask for your ribs 'Well Done'. Unless you like them light pink and rubbery, well done is a must request. 2. Be specific with your requests. If you want something done a certain way, make sure you ask. When it is done your way it is delicious, when it is not is ruins the experience!

I did not like anything they brought to our table. I was there with a group and I believe we had about 15 different dinners. We didn't get a few things we ordered and the waitress actually argued with us that she already brought them to us... And gave us attitude when we said she didn't. I went home hungry! And the Mai tai's were not what I'm used to. Too much sour mix. Would never return, very disappointed. We spent $640.00, you'd think they would want to give us good service so we would come back, not worth it! Sorry, but I have to be honest.

  • Bryan R.

I am giving this place 4 stars for 3 important reasons. 1) I have not ever had bad service here (medicore, maybe but not bad enough for me to really brood over it) 2) I have at times (and more importantly my last visit) had great service here. 3) Apart from the beat up carpet when you walk in, the place is just plain decent to be in (the men's bathroom in particular is immaculate). The food is Meh. Mostly fried and not a heck of a lot in the way of fresh fruits and veggies (except for the pineapple they have with the fortune cookie). The bar is a different story but overall I like it too.

  • Sarah D.

This place is kind of gross but kind of wonderful. Nobody will go here with me anymore. The food is not good. I think they really only make like 5 things, and then they just add either celery or pineapple/maraschino cherries or mushrooms to it and call it a chef's specialty. No worries. I like disgusting food as long as there are gold lions guarding the entrance. The drink are slightly weaker versions of the same drinks you get at every bad chinese restaurant. More booze please. Karaoke here is hysterical. I honestly thought this was the second-fanciest restaurant in the world when I was a kid, behind the long-since-departed Hollow. Anyway, yeah. Bad chinese food, but easy parking and occasionally epic karaoke. A-Okay.

If I had to sum up my experience at Cathay Pacific in one word, it would be: SWILL. The best part of my meal by far was the fortune cookie. I wouldn't even feed Cathay Pacific to my dog. I had approximately 3-5 bites of my food, and almost threw up. DON'T GO HERE!

The decor of the place is down right creepy, maybe it's just me and it's rather a bit dark for my taste The food so-so, and borderline pricey. They don't deliver and the staff are not so friendly. I used to order from here at least a couple of times a month, now i give my business to the crappy chinese restaurant around the corner. One of the ladies who worked in our office retired, and this is her favorite Chinese food place. So we decided to order from here for her "happy retirement" send off. Since they don't deliver, i went to pick it up. Thinking with such a huge order, i can ask for help bringing it out, boy were i wrong. When i got there, two huge boxes sat waiting near the register, and when i asked if someone can help me bring them to the car, the person said all their staff are busy. Hello there are two of you at the register, and a handful of wait staff floating around, not too mention kitchen staff ... and no one can spare 1 minute. I know it was lunch hour, and it's only a couple of hundred steps out to my car, not like they have to carry the boxes to China, yet the can't spare one person to help. Another customer was waiting for his food and he offered to help (God bless him) Since then, i don't order from them anymore, even for a small party. Even when someone from my office say let's get chinese from Cathy's, remembering how they valued me as a customer, i flaty say no, even if someone offered to buy me lunch from there, i said no thanks, i rather have my cup-o-noodles.

DON'T order from this restaurant. Lady who picked up the phone was rude. I was looking through the menu and ordering items that should only worth about $20. She was charging me for $30. When I asked to take out an item, she hung up on me. I even heard the sound of her clicking the phone before she was completely cut off. Rude and dishonest service.

4.6 stars actually!! YUM My family has come to this restaurant for 20+ years. The food and portions are excellent. Service is fine. I get a craving for their food every few months or so. Actually, one of the employees held both sets of doors for my adorable 98 year old grandmother! Aw...now that deserves another star... Family orders every New Year's Eve and orders EARLY in the day to pick it up later. *******Karaoke Bar is scary...as others have posted over there, there are: prostitutes (or those who just have that look) washed-up 30-40 somethings groups of people who work in the area and either don't know what they are in for or do and laugh at it! ***** minus.00001 star b/c menu does not appear to be found online (went to a few sites...)

This is the best place for Chinese... short of the chinese you get from Fall River or New Bedford (i love fall river style chowmein - from the oriental noodle company). The food is to die for, it always comes out hot. The service is always fast, and the waitstaff is always very polite and attentive. The atmosphere is average if not better than most chinese food restaurants of its kind... It is very clean. The prices are very reasonable.. it borders on cheap!!! The portions are huge... what more can I say! The only downside I see is NO DELIVERY.... I live across the street so its disappointing that they don't have a delivery service.

Great atmosphere, great women, and great bread. Asian restaurants is what I love, and Cathay Pacific is one of my favorites outside of Asia. Your meal starts of with a fancy Chinese bread and butter appetizer. It's great bread - when you inevitably have to ask for your meal to be wrapped (huge portions!) I always ask the waitress to stick a few more complimentary breads in there. I can't get enough of them. My favorite dish to order is the authentic Peking Duck - when you eat it, you'll think you're in Peking during the times of Confucius. You aren't given the standard tortilla-type rolls with the duck, but instead this more manly fatter bun, which I prefer. If I bring a date here, I ALWAYS get the Scorpion bowl to share. It's like my lucky charm of getting lucky. One negative thing about CP (as the regulars call it) is they don't always put enough alcohol in the drinks. It sometimes takes TWO Scorpion bowls for me to get what I need. It's the main reason I couldn't give The CP five stars. There is also some cool live music here on weekends. I recommend coming for Intense City whenever they roll into town. Make sure to save room for desert - the fortune cookie and fresh pineapple are delish!

Suggestion: When choosing a Chinese restaurant, choose one where Chinese people eat. Otherwise, settle for crappy Americanized Chinese food at inflated prices. We went here for dinner recently on a friend's suggestion and it was disappointing to say the least. The building is beautifully decorated and has ornate carvings and artwork all around. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre, the tea was weak, and the menu options were not as authentic as we were expecting. They started the meal off with bread, too. Nothing on the menu goes well with bread... It's definitely not the worst Chinese food I've had, but I was expecting better. Or at least something other than take-out...

This place is the tits and that's all you need to know about it; however, due to a large amount of hateration on this page, I feel the need to expand on this statement. I am giving Cathay Pacific 5 stars on a Chinese Food Restaurant Scale. Not in comparison to say, Rialto or something fancy. As far as Chinese food restaurants go, this is the mother of all Chinese food restaurants. The decor is original, from I would say the 60s. The service: polite and attentive. The drinks, served in glass coconuts and tiki heads: AWESOME. If this place was in Somerville the bar would be flooded with hipsters. Lucky for me it's in Quincy so there's a delicious mix of ages, races and people that wear jumpsuits. The chicken wings are THE TRUTH and you are immediately served a basket of kaiser rolls, a half gallon of duck sauce and a pot of tea upon sitting down. Satisfaction is immediate and "traditional" in the Chinese food restaurants of old sense. I really don't want to hear another bad word about this place. I'm finished.

  • Peter C.

I give a 2 stars because the waiter is nice. Come on, this isn't really Chinese food. If you really want real Chinese, go to Chinatown. P.S. don't try their cocktail either. I spit it out. But I do give them a high five for being innovative (Stage Karaoke and full Bar) compare to the other boring Chinese restaurants. It's probably the atmosphere that keeps the people comming back.

Not a nice venue for karaoke. If you are not a "regular" you Will not be added to the rotation. RUDE DJ! Name is Joe PET and I would never hire him for any of my engagements. I also do lots of event planning and I would never recommend him. If Cathay is smart, they will unload this dud!

I could have sworn I wrote a review of this place when I first started yelping. I have been going to Cathay Pacific since being a little kid. I have gone drinking and dancing there for about ten years. I will review my most recent visits the past couple of years. Anyways...here we go! The Food: Many like this new Hot Pot, Shabu, and Sushi (Japanese) crap. I don't! I like Chicken WIngs, Boneless Ribs, Lobster Sauce, and Pork fried rice. Cathay knows how to do it and they do it right. All of it is delicious. My favorites are the chicken fingers and the fried shrimp. The chicken fingers are like chicken finger style chicken nuggets. They are so good while hot. The fried shrimp is a whole big fried shrimp. It isn't mangled or crippled to look like a chicken finger like other places do. The drinks: The drinks are good but it depends on whose making it. I like the Zombies, Pina Coladas, and Scorpion Bowls. The other regular drinks are good too. They are priced right, sized right, and more importantly not watered down. The Service: This is shaky at best. One guy takes your order. Another guy serves. The order guy takes your money leaving you scratching your head. The food is so good I can overlook the service kind of like people do with the Soup Nazi. Karaoke Nights Karaoke Nights are every night except Fridays and Saturdays. You can make an ass of yourself here with no problems. I enjoy singing Rick James and Prince especially when I've had a zombie or two too many. I think some people on the Karaoke circuit hang here. Band Nights I love band nights. My kind of crowd and my kind of music. Band nights are on Friday and Saturday nights. The bands play top 40 and other classics from the 60s all the way to current hits. This is a hidden gem if you like the just past cougars to grandmamas. I'm ok with that after a zombie or two. I have no problem cutting a rug with a grandmama.

Let me try to be as positive as possible. I've gotten a few things from here because the place is so cute and has such a nice big parking lot, but honestly, EVERYTHING I have gotten, tastes EXACTLY the same. There is NO difference between the Cashew Chicken and the Kung Pao Chicken and several other chicken dishes. They don't even use "Chinese-y vegetables" like the green bok choy stuff and all those other things... I think they use a bag of frozen vegetables of peas and corn and peppers. You can just tell in the perfect cube shape of everything and how there is NO taste to the vegetables. The Hot & Sour soup is decent. On the more positive side, their crab rangoons are excellent. Their vegetable lo mein is horrible... how does a place mess up vegetable lo mein?

    (2)
  • Kim P.

This review is based on the catering/takeout I had from CP a couple of weeks ago at a dinner for the place where I volunteer. I found the food quite good: the crab rangoon was tasty, not a bunch of mush; the beef and broccoli wasn't too stringy and had good flavor, and the usual food (rice, spareribs, etc.) was good. I'm actually going to swing by there and take in the craziness that other Yelpers have noted. I think I just might like 70s Polynesian...

Yes the place needs an upgrade, yes the waitresses can be kinda rude, yes they have a sketchy karoke bar with even sketchier people...but the food is good, the prices are even better, and you'll never leave hungry. Big portions and french bread and butter (strange I know for an asian establishment but I'm not gonna complain)... it A-OK. but the hubby doesn't like it. whatevs. it's my review. :)

See the picture of my chicken wing / beef broccoli lunch ( $8.45 ).. Chicken wings were crispy / crunchy and deep fried in peanut oil.. Deliscious! I been going here for 20 years. I have had not so great experiences when I get the food for take-out - so now I eat it there.. GOING FOR LUNCH IS ALWAYS THE BEST TAKE! ALWAYS FRESH AND COOKED RIGHT. I have never had a bad lunch here.. Dinner, I'm not so sure.. Take out from here has always been good, but not as good as lunch..

Walking into this place is like stepping through a time warp to 1992 in Las Vegas. This place is tacky, tacky, tacky, tacky, tacky. Etc. I swear there was an old lady dressed in a track suit with a fanny pack a few seats over. Playing the nickel slots at the Flamingo must have left her absolutely famished. They had karaoke coming from the other side of the place and it was so loud you could hear it pretty clearly in the dining room. This was both interesting and unfortunate, especially when some man -- a total hot mess -- got up to butcher 'Brass In Pocket.' Epic karaoke failure. Luckily we were still able to talk amongst ourselves without the karaoke overpowering us, so it quickly became background noise. We ordered a pu pu platter which was waaaaaay bigger than how our waiter explained it, some pork fried rice, and general gau's chicken. Yeah, we totally looked like heifers with all that food on our table. When the rice came out it looked a little wah, wah, wah. It was very over cooked and dry. But the boneless spare ribs and crab rangoon were particularly tasty. The chicken puffs and chicken wings were alright. And the general gau's chicken was perfectly fine, but not very flavorful and on the lame side. At the end of our meal the waiter brought us fortune cookies and pineapple. I love pineapple! I hate when they don't just bring it out and you have to ask for it. In an ideal world, I would have pineapple on toothpicks after every single meal. Anyway, this place is a solid three stars for food and entertainment factor. I ate my weight in food and it was pretty decent. Of course, I could have thought it was decent because I walked in to the restaurant salivating and was SERIOUSLY hungry. Like, Kelly Clarkson and Oprah at a buffet kind of hungry. Maybe anything at that point might have tasted good, but you can get Chinese food wrong and luckily Cathay Pacific didn't.

Instead of going to a good Vietnamese soup house for Christmas, the boy wanted to go to Cathay Pacific instead. Shame on me for even bringing it up. While the food quality was definitely better than many hole in the wall Chinese takeout joints, it was hardly close to what I would consider Chinese. And people, we're in North Quincy! The home for good Chinese eats supposedly. Anyway, when I saw the waitress bring out duck sauce and hot mustard, I inwardly cheered waiting for her to bring out the dry noodles. Instead she brought out bread. WHAT?!?!? What am I supposed to dip in the hot sauce. Dammit. The boy and I each ended up getting the hot and sour soup. They made it specially for us without pork too, supposedly. I have to say it was very good. But then it was all downhill. What wasn't so good were the monster sized chicken wings (think chickens on steriods) and the asian veggie dish we had. It wasn't bad, just not great. Probably not someplace I'd go again unless I wanted to be thoroughly entertained by the audience, i.e. the crowd eating at the restaurant. There definitely are some characters there.

Cougars dressed in 70's dresses actually FROM the 70's? Come to Cathay Pacific Polynesian drinks served in Tiki heads that all look and taste like fruit punch? Come to Cathay Pacific A 60yr old woman bumping and grinding in stretch pants, singing Before He Cheats to a bunch of q-tips who dont know who carrie underwood is? CATHAY PACIFIC! Pu Pu platters for two that can easily serve a small asian village and leaves a pool of oil in its wake from plate to drunk munchy mouth...well, you get the idea. I prefer my pu pu a little less oily. If all else fails on a friday night, come here. For 5 bucks you get free entertainment. Old burn outs who think they are back in their prime shoving them into dresses and spandex that clearly dont fit(might be because of the pu pu and Polynesian drinks)

Love Cathay Pacific. It's not trendy. It's not edgy. It's not a fancy place. That's just the way it is. It's a comfortable place to get a giant plate of standard Chinese food for about 12-- a plate. You get linens and hot tea and fortune cookies at the end. Never had a problem with the service. The drinks are strong. It's not a fancy place.

I have been very disappointed by Chinese food in most of the areas of Boston especially Dorchester, but when I saw how packed this place was on a Monday night I knew it had to be worth checking out. I am nothing short of blown away, from the service, decor, cleanliness, taste! Everything exceeding my expectations. I read some nasty reviews on yelp and was a little wary but clearly some people wrote bad reviews for the wrong reasons. I don't believe for 1 second any kind of bug fell from the ceiling here. Prices we're above expected, but portions more than made made up for the increased price.

Best part of the meal was the bread and the fortune cookie. My drink was great by the way... $10.00 for a Buddha's delight that was totally irrelevant bland ick did nothing for me.... will not want to go back except for a drink and fortune cookies in a bag....

I cant believe all of these mean-spirited reviews I am reading about the Cathay Pacific. I guess you could not like this place if you live in a plastic bubble where everyone is beautiful, young, and LIKE YOU. I for one, like venturing outside of my comfort zone to meet new people, and try an experience I have not had 100 times. Really bad marks for all the people who wrote that the clientele at the Cathay are old, shady, weird, and whatever other mean stuff they wrote...sounds like a bunch of ageist xenophobes who only want to be around people like them, if you ask me. So all that aside... I think the Cathay Pacific is awesome. It's a Polynesian dinosaur from decades past. The decor is wonderfully 70's retro, sort of like the restaurant from the beginning of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom with that crazy musical number. They have "crystal" chandeliers, gold everything, I guess some people consider that to be run down, but I think it's delightful. The Cathay is huge... a big dining room, a private function room (I want to have my 30th birthday party here!), and a lounge complete with stage and dance floor. The Cathay has live bands, mostly funk and soul, on the weekends and Karaoke monday, tuesday, and wednesday nights. Yes, there is a $4 cover charge for the karaoke but it is totally worth it because if you really like to sing karaoke, you can sing upwards of ten songs a night! That being said...the place was a little dead, which i loved cause it meant I could sing more, but others might not necessarily like hearing the same 5 people sing over and over again. The Karaoke host, Joe Pet, was really nice, plus he has over 200,000 songs in his database! If you are looking for a "hot" or "jammin'" night club where you can pick up some skanky sorority tail, this place probably isnt for you. I admit that I didnt even try the food. I just went for the karaoke but I did get a scorpion bowl that was a little small for the price and really, really sweet, but arent they supposed to be? They had a big menu of funny drinks served in tiki heads called things like "Dr. Funk" and "Suffering Bastard". Classic Polynesian tiki bar. If you like unusual dining experiences, interesting people, and the best karaoke in town you should probably check out the Cathay Pacific. I'll have an update to this review as soon as I try the food.

I feel the need to update my review, a family member of was recently in their kitchen and said the place is spotless!!! The cooks and the kitchen prep people also wear masks while they are handling your food. I guess if any of you have germ issues take some comfort in that.

This is a good business its a place to go when you want to be surrounded by people but at the same time be anonymous. Cathay Pacific is a very large restaurant with a good deal of seating and a bar area as well. The food (especially the dinner specials) is reasonably priced and tastes reasonably good. The service is usually good with the waitstaff usually anxious to please. This seems to be a mostly happy place to be and a good place to gather with friends. portions are big. The only downside is the lack of draft beer. Beer is only available in 12 ounce bottles and costs roughly $5.00 per bottle which is way over priced in our opinion.

I used to like to sit in the lounge and watch old people dance to an amateur funk band. But lately they've been charging $5-7 cover charge. Yeah I'm all set Cathay Pacific. But I cannot pass up their super strong drinks! I LOVE the limited Polynesian drink menu with pictures and fun names. I swear to all things holy it's the same drink just in different glasses. But give me a Doctor Funk and a Scorpion Bowl and I'll be happy. Good for a late night drink and snack. Never a dinner destination.

Friday night Alright I decided on a place in between Malden and Pembroke that was easy to travel to. Cathay Pacific fit the bill. This is my 2nd time at this fantastic establishment. I love this place. Why? LIVE BAND!!!! And good customer service helps too. Now I may be off my rocker but this place is expensive they have lobster sauce for $14. Unreal. And that does not come with rice. But you can't be upset over the pricing this place is very clean the staff is courteous the drinks are good kina weak but good but you know your money is going into good food and good service and cleanliness. My friend and I ordered off the way back menu they have plates from $12-14 that comes with a large portions of good food. Drinks I had a weak scorpion bowl for one and they had a mai tai with our meal. After the meal we sat in the cool room so we could see the band. I loved them. The music is music you would hear on the radio top 40ish sprinkled with old school top 40 hits and some salsa. FYI the patrons on the dance floor are way over 40 and adorable. It's nice to see people of all ages just hanging out and having a good time and dancing their stresses away.

A friend of mine was home over the weekend and he said that he wanted to go out for a cheesy band and a drink in Quincy. There are many places in Quincy that could supply what he was looking for but he chose CP. I grew up on the South Shore but was a CP virgin so I said whatever. The band on Saturday night was playing 80's Boys to Men, Bobby Brown and lots of other music of that kind, which provided the cheesy music. The patrons were dancing and there were pensioners and partiers present. The drinks weren't on the cheap side though. If you are looking for an array of drinks with umbrellas, this is the place. Everyone present also seemed to have a pupu platter. The waitress was friendly and quick. Cheesy bands: check Cheap drinks: nope I would go to one of the many other bars with cheesy bands and cheap drinks over this.

Any time a menu kicks off with an illustrated list of classic tiki cocktails like Dr. Funk and the infamous Scorpion Bowl, my heart soars and I hope for the best. Alas, Cathay Pacific did not deliver on that early promise. Although the plastic leis around the mai tais were a festive touch, the drink itself was pretty mediocre. It was heavy on the lime and pretty watery, with hardly a trace of rum. Completely unbuzzed after two, we decided to call it quits. The pupu platter wasn't bad. It's fried delights weren't greasy and were nicely presented on a segmented platter with an odd sort of Roman urn thing in the middle. The service was pretty good, but the overall vibe was uninspired. It's ok, but I wouldn't go out of your way.

We had takeout for New Year's Eve and the food was fantastic! The place was mobbed but they had it under control. Love this place. Now we know why everyone comes here from far away - love it!

I would always go to Cathay Pacific just because there's where my parents and my friends' families would go. I thought it was pretty good. Once I got older, it got worse and worse. The Pork Fried Rice just tastes like a huge onion and I can't stand onions. I find the chicken wings to be too small and just not that great. The only thing I really like from here is the Fried Shrimp, but even that is bad because it's mostly batter and hardly any shrimp!! Give me my shrimp! But I must say, I do enjoy the karaoke nights and getting drinks with my friend. There's only two problems I have with this and that is that the Scorpion Bowls you have to get one just for yourself. Wtf? You are supposed to share a Scorpion Bowl! That's the whole point!! And the other reason is that the staff take a very long time with checking up on you, even when it's slow. But everything else about the lounge is A-OK!

Just like any kind of good, Chinese is very subjective, it all depends on what you're used to and what kind you prefer. It really can vary from place to place, and Cathay Pacific is no different. I work literally a stone's throw away from Cathay Pacific yet I've only eaten there a handful of times. I've only ever had takeout from them, and while it wasn't bad, I've just never had any desire to go back.

OK so here's the deal with Cathay Pacific: the place is a dump, the shadiest, seediest characters on the South Shore call this place home, the decor is hideous and worn, the whole place is falling apart. That said, they will give you a mountain of (American) Chinese food on the cheap which isn't half bad. No, there's nothing extraordinary about this place and your gut instinct will be to run away when you first get there but the food is alright, prices are decent, and the staff is friendly.

Geez after reading the past few reviews I am a little scared to say that I like their chinese food! haha and since I am a kid at heart they have really good Shirley Temples. I havent been in a few months so maybe it has changed?

This place denied a seat in the lounge to a twenty seven year old man who had a valid Massachusetts I.D. He was one of a party of four denied seats in the lounge because Cathay Pacific demands only Massachusetts Drivers Licenses! Shame on you, Cathay Pacific.

I ventured here for the first time in years, and full disclosure, I am not a cougar, a few weeks ago FOR the people watching and in hopes of hearing the occasional decent band. WOW have times changed. The clientele is still a little, shall we say, entertaining but there is a $5 cover for those not eating there--which I will get to in a moment, and beers were $5.25 each!~Outrageous. The $8 Suffering Bastard I got was quite apropos and thus amusing. The "band" sounded like they met for the first time in the parking lot 5 minutes before and could have served as role models for an SNL skit. If we weren't meeting people there, we would have left at the $5 cover charge sign. Suffice to say, we lasted one drink round because anyone who would pay these prices has to have something wrong with them. Now, the food is plain disgusting. Granted it has been a little while since I have suffered the disgrace of a 1am Cathay run but harsh memories rarely fade and since they are charging insane prices in their lounge, I'm doubting they can afford an upgrade in food quality. Greasy, bland and dare I say, old tasting is how I remember it. Quincy has changed dramatically in recent years and continues to add upscale, affordable, high quality authentic Asian restaurants so I fail to see any reason to continue to patronize this dumpy place.

So I went with my husband and my father in law to here this evening to get some asian food because I love it.So I wanted a Zombie and I had a regular state ID so they go no we can't serve you with a state ID and then the lady offers to get the manager which is fine and he comes over in a hostile mood and I said why can't I use my state ID here when I can use it anywhere else. So he gets loud and hostile and I was like you don't have to come off hostile. He was like it's not my rule it's the law in this loud voice and I said I am right here there is no need for you to yelll. He goes I work in a restaurant manager and I have to speak loud mind you I am married to a bouncer and daughter in law to a damn bartender and the don't yell.I will never ever go there for anything. The manager completely turned me off to the place by coming off rude to me.I understand it's the law okay but coming off hostile and loud was so uncalled for. Their service is okay sides the ass of a manager.

This restaurant discriminates against people with disabilities--they turned away someone with Down's Syndrome trying to watch a Bruins game with his mom! That's disgusting!

I've never had their food, but from what people say it isn't bad, especially the crab rangoons. I've been here in the evening once (or was it twice?) and what stands out to me is that there is Karaoke... ...every night. The place is always full of washed up 30-40 somethings who have nothing better to do than come sing someone else's songs after work. Many of them get pretty drunk and look as if they need to be wearing lampshades as accessories to their loosened ties.

I've lived in Boston for thirty-eight years, and I can tell you that Cathay Pacific is a local gem. The south shore doesn't have anything else to compare. The people there are nice, it's easily accesible (right off the expressway), they're open when you need them to be, they handle large groups as well as intimate dates and most importantly the food is priced fairly, is nicely portioned and TASTES GOOD. Also, if you don't want to be part of the karaoke crowd - go to the restaurant side, not the bar.

I've been coming to this place for 15 years or so now. As far as MA Chinese food goes IMO this place is excellent. I've had a few times where their food hasn't been up to par but more often then not this place is great! It has an interesting crowd but its huge and its right next to Boston so everyone goes there!

The restaurant has had recent renovations and looks better than before. I think that some of the reviews don't consider that this is your basic (for the most part Cantonese) chinese restaurant.. If you're looking for something other than that, you should go some place else. The food is good for the most part. Worth a try.

Cathay Pacific is one of those places that everyone who lives in the South Shore must try at least once. But once is all it takes to know better than to go back. American Chinese food is a cuisine unto itself and most of it is pretty awful. The few places that stand out in my mind are only there because they are consistently good. I've been to CP more than once and it's ranged from above average quality to "I took one bite of each dish and didn't take any of it home". I still encourage folks to try it at least once--it's a throwback and the sounds that pour out of the karaoke bar are interesting to say the least.

nope. do not go here. at least not to drink. drinks are landsdown prices. um. what? 6 dollars for a miller lite? really? and everyone who goes there are middle aged and fat. and there are always cops there. i really don't get it.

yessss this place is out of an 80's movie scene in some casino restaurant /diner... but the food is really great. the portions huge. traditional chinese menu...with very few american additions. the service is prompt, and the drinks are actually surprisingly freakin great. it is a dated decor... but its CLEAN, its cheap, generous on portions and tasty.

The food here is ok. This place has been around for along time so they must be doing something right. The night i enjoy going are when there are bands playing just because im a musicain myself. If i had to dislike something it would have to be the prices on alcohol. if i remember correct a Bud Light was $6.95 plus tax!!!!! THATS CRAZY!!!! So fair to say i wasnt to happy when that final bill came from the woman that could not speak english. lol Drink before u get there!!!!

Cathay Pacific, where should I start. This place is amazing. Prices are average, but this place is great for groups. Its open late, and prices are average. The food is pretty good. I love this place because its open late, good price for food, and Its great for 2+. Oh yeah, there is a Karaoke night for 18+ on the weekends. Oh man this place brings memories. Hope it helps. remember to chew twice once for you and once for me!!!

It's got decor straight out of the 80's. Shady characters and horrible service. But some of the food is decent, like the chicken wings and bone in ribs. Plus the entertainment value of watching people who can't sing try to do Karoke is hilarous!

The Cathay always was a place that respectable people liked to go for last call.........it was not a great place to go for the evening.......because there were a lot of locals, but once they put a cover charge on - a lot of people I know lost total interest in going for last call...............now they will only have locals going..............

We stumbled onto this place at 4pm on a Friday afternoon, fortunately it was not busy. We had a few drinks and an appetizer. The Drinks were pretty good: I had Mai tai (really tasty!) and a Planter's Punch, my lady had a Coco Punch followed by the Love Potion. We both agreed that the first drinks were the better. Spare ribs and steak tips were pretty good. We really only stopped through because the exterior decor and the name made me think it might have a little tiki to it, which it does....but inside it's a bit more traditional Chinese vs. Polynesian. If it was a bit more Polynesian I'd rate it a 4, but that's just me. The service was good, our bartender meant business and kept 'em coming.

The other reviews are right about the decor.... It is cheesy! The bathroom is really the only place in the restaurant that has a little bit of esthetic! The "kareoke" bar (I have yet to be there on a night when there is not kareoke going on) is pretty funny. The people are sketchballs, the songs are all super old and there singing is horrid! So why the 4 stars? The food is consistently good. Large portions of edible pretty tasty eats and many to choose from. The prices are good as well. And the waitstaff has always been attentive and quick. You are in and out in the amount of time you want to be- its quick but you are not rushed if you want to take your time. You definitely have a take-out container leaving with you.

Cathay Pacific, if the karaoke doesn't put you to sleep the MSG will. Located 15 minutes from downtown Boston, this establishment is easy to get to and provides ample parking, which are both a nice alternative to finding a restaurant in Boston. Don't get me wrong, Cathay Pacific does provide an atmosphere, menu and food quality that serves a purpose. Great for big groups, late nights and heavy drink. Cathay Pacific provides two happy mediums to enjoy mass quantities of alcohol both by providing karaoke on a seemingly constant schedule and deep friend Asian-American appetizers. Wait staff is rude and take out orders are always slow on weekend nights. Portions and price are reasonable but the food quality and flavor layering misses the mark. If you aren't into foodcourt quality Chinese food and a frat house atmosphere I would recommend avoiding. If you are allergic to MSG I would avoid this establishment at all costs, I have never gone more than three hours after eating there food before I fall asleep. If this restaurant was 15 minutes away in Chinatown they would not be able to compete. However, given Cathay Pacific's location ease of access you may find that this establishment can serve as a once or twice a year guilty pleasure.

This place is pretty good. Prices are great. Service is prompt, and usually friendly. I always order the PuPu platter and fried rice. The food is flavorful, great portions, but I'm not a fan of the boneless spareribs-too tough. Scorpion bowl-AWESOME!!

Best Chinese sit down lunch I've had in years. #12 plate is huge & fresh, lot of sweet & sour chicken (real cherries & pineapple chunks) meaty boneless ribs, fresh egg roll with fresh pork fried rice. Yellow chicken curry lunch good too. Definitely my new go to place for Chinese sit down or take out. Good quality, huge portions, great value. I love getting hot tea & the bread & butter while you're waiting, wish all Chinese places were this good. The battle for best Chinese South of Boston hands down goes to Cathay Pacific imo. We've tried them all & I go many miles past a lot of decent Asian places to indulge in their food. Whether you're eating there or taking home, you will not be disappointed.

The food here is pretty good, but the service sucks ass. There was a large group of us once, and we wanted separate checks since some were drinking and others weren't (I just wanted an app myself). The waitress said that we couldn't do it because of the group size. I guess that's code for "I don't know how to do that." Either that, or she didn't want us to stiff her on the tip for shitty service, which we probably would have done. There were six of us, and an 18% gratuity was included on our bill... for six of us. Eight people is generally the norm. I've never heard of someone doing that for six. When the waitress also brought our food out, she spilled a bunch of the pork spare-ribs. I actually wonder if she would have replaced the portion (about half of them). Had I not looked at it from across the table then looked at her. She picked them up with a napkin and then came out with some more in a bowl. Leary, the person who ordered them checked them a bit as this place has been known to "re-food." Legend tells of a roll that looked fine, but when cut open, already had butter in it. Eventually, we got her to bill at least one of the couples separately. 18% gratuity still included. They paid on card, others paid in cash. As we were leaving, the waitress yelled "stop!" and accused the couple who paid with their card of walking out on the bill. They had to show the signed receipt that the card was run. All of this in front of the QPD officer who was near the entrance. (I'm still not sure why there's always a QPD officer there.) Unlike most asian food places in Quincy, this place hasn't undergone a name change every two to four years (i.e., when helth inspectors fail the restaurants). Still, it has a reputation as "Cathay Horrific." I wonder if they're paying off someone in the city to stay in business after half of the complaints I've heard. Again, the food isn't bad at all, but the service is horrible. If I could complain about one more thing, it would be that they charge $4.95 for a bottle of bud. Not draft or the like, but a regular old bottle. Usually under $3 in most places in this area. Make of that what you will. In good judgement I really can't recommend this place. It's a bit pricey for what it is. You're better off at Mandarin King or Sakura in Quincy Point if you want our version of classic Chinese food. Better prices and just as delicious, minus the atmosphere and HORRIBLE service.

I blame myself for being drawn in by the 70's retro exterior. I am slowly losing hope for good Chinese food in the Quincy area. Service was fine. After scanning the menu, which appears quite similar to Imperial Terrace's (especially the dinner specials), I ordered the Fried Squid, Peking Style dish and I now know what is more boring than staring at a wall. The dish was loaded with vegetables, which is great, but most of the squid must have swam away at some point between the kitchen and our table. My partner's only comment about the Buddha's Delight dish: too oily. Apparently, the ingredients of Buddha's Delight made such an impression that only the excess oil was worth mentioning. Sadly, I am also compelled to mention that they (or perhaps just the host) *might* be prejudiced. I might return to Cathay for karaoke (and to check for further evidence of their prejudice), NOT the food.

Went here last night for the first time with a friend on a whim for Chinese food. The place was brightly lit, clean, servers were friendly, food was delicious, AND they have kick-azz Scorpion Bowls! Diverse clientele, certainly not a fancy place, but then I don't think they're trying to be that. I'm planning to go back for karaoke and more GOOD food and Scorpion Bowls! Reminded me of the Hong Kong in Harvard Square with a different clientele. OH! They are open LATE, like 2am, for those after-the-club night munchies!

place sucks! sat down at the "bar" with my buddy and bartender was very awkward and rude and creepy. we got drinks and menus and she awkwardly stared at my friend without saying a word for a few minutes. made us feel very uncomfortable not to mention there is no windows or chicks! $7 for 2 fountain sodas. and the prick in the vest came over and wanted to move us to the dining room, we would have went there in the first place if we wanted to! worst dining experience anywhere!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
